Do the Right Thing
by Jim M. Allen
Answer this question for me: What's the last thing you did right?
If this feels like an odd question, ignore that for now and focus on your answer.
CAN you answer the question? Can you come up with a long list of answers? I hope so because many of the people I work with can't answer this question.
Oh, it's not that they don't have an answer, it's just that they can't get beyond the question itself. They have spent so much time focusing on the stuff that's gone wrong, that they've "messed up," that the idea of considering all of the things that they've done right up until now is just too uncomfortable for them.
Don't let this happen to you!
Sit down and spend some time considering just all of the things that you've done right. Write it down. Make a list of those things that you've done well AND THAT YOU DO WELL!
Review your list frequently. Add new things to it. Take a look at it when the going gets tough on your latest project and you need some inspiration.
Chances are good that you've been much more successful than you give yourself credit for, so, start giving yourself credit by paying attention to all of the things that you do well.
It's just the right thing to do!
