Lessons from the Year 2000 Presidential Election
by Jim M. Allen
By the time you read this, it may all be over. Or, they may still be counting votes and going to court. But just because we don't have a president doesn't mean we can't start learning from the recent election. After all, life lessons can be found everywhere, even in the hurly-burly world of national politics.
Here are a few of the lessons I learned about life (and politics) from the presidential election:
1. You have only what you have...
...not what you expect to have.
2. Every vote counts....
...but only if you vote. So, speak your mind, share your thoughts, stand up and be counted.
3. Prepare for anything....
...most of all what you expect the least.
4. When you think it's over it's just begun...
...pace yourself, things may take longer than you expected.
5. Take stock...
... you may have more options than you first realize.
6. Take responsibility....
...you may just be responsible.
7. When the going gets tough, the tough take care....
...guard your health and your spirit ALL of the time.
8. Family matters most....
...allow your friends and family to support you in the face of great obstacles.
9. Get help....
...there are plenty of people with the expertise and the information you need. Seek them out.
10. It ain't over til it's over....
...so pause, but don't stop. Keep working until all options have been exhausted.
